Birch has a fine, even texture, straight grain creamy white to very pale tan. At Hilltop, we commonly use birch for the inside cabinets. Birch finishes well and has a good luster and is easy to stain.

Cherry has a fine, even texture and straight grain. Cherry is a very popular wood at Hilltop for cabinets because of its combination of fine texture, wavy but even grain and reddish mid-tone color. Cherry tends to have some dirty patches or flecks, also known as small closed knots, pin pockets and mineral streaks. The wood darkens very quickly after finishing to help hide those imperfections. The finish comes up to a superb luster, and takes stain well.

Hickory is strong, straight or wavy grain. Coloring is sometime inconsistent with occasional thin, dark brown lines. Finished Hickory has a hard surface and a good luster can be achieved. At Hilltop we use stains to emphasize the open grain patterns. 

Knotty alder is a medium density hardwood that features a color range of light brown with reddish or peach hues. Knotty Alder has small and large split knots and open knots that vary in size, shape and color. The finish can range from visibility from dark spots absorbing excessive stain to very light spots absorbing minimal stain. 

Maple is hard, strong, heavy, even, fine texture. The fine, even texture of maple and its high luster make this North American hardwood a popular species furniture and cabinets in the United States. It also includes curly grain patterns and mineral streaks. Resistant to shock and abrasive wear, Maple is a popular choice in cabinet making. It can be finished to a superb luster.

Red oak is an American classic when it comes to cabinets, furniture, millwork and more. Red oak heartwood is a light to medium brown, often with a reddish cast. It is a very hard and tough variety with a straight grain that has a corse and uneven texture. When properly dried and treated, this wood accepts a variety finishes in a uniform manner.

Rustic Cherry shows a large amount of variations in the material. It will have allowances for larger-sized open knots, knots that contain star cracks, heavier amounts of color variation, sapwood on the face and pitch pockets. This is a very popular style at Hilltop if your are going for that rustic look.
